Just going to warn you right now that this is a really distant hope that will very probably never be accomplished in the next 50 years, by which time snow in the Cascades is expected to disappear.
I was up at Snoqualmie Pass skiing this morning, a great way to start the new year. On the ride there, I thought about how awesome it would be to be able to get on a train that would drop you off right at the slopes of Snoqualmie Pass and other places like Crystal Mountain. Instead of having to get in the car and drive half-asleep for an hour, you could get on the train, drink some coffee or recover some sleep. That would be so awesome.
It's been done in places where skiing is really big and important, like Switzerland, and I believe there is at least one resort like in America whose base is at an Amtrak Empire Builder Station. I really want to go there.
Does this seem like a crazy request? I know it's practically unrealistic in our current budget. It's just a dream.
